Dr Puffin O’Hanlon
Senior Clinical Psychologist
Dr O’Hanlon completed her undergraduate studies at Cambridge University, and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at University College London. Dr O’Hanlon has worked with children, young people and adults in NHS primary, secondary and tertiary care mental health and physical health settings, and in the charitable and private sectors.
Dr O’Hanlon has many years’ experience of developing and evaluating psychological therapies to be more relevant, accessible and engaging for diverse populations, at University College London, Sussex University, and in clinical practice. Dr O’Hanlon has a particular interest in creative approaches in psychotherapy, especially when traditional talk-based therapies aren’t a good fit. Dr O’Hanlon has a particular interest in mind-body approaches to distress. Dr O’Hanlon’s work has included helping to develop apps and online programmes to deliver mindfulness-based interventions, and designing equine-assisted therapy and education programmes, using animals and the outdoors to engage children and young people in evidence-based psychological therapy.
Many of Dr O’Hanlon’s patients experience anxiety, depression, emotion regulation and communication difficulties, post-traumatic stress, relationship issues, eating disorders, addiction, bereavement or physical health conditions – including life-limiting illnesses.
Dr O’Hanlon is experienced in assessing diverse psychological needs across the lifespan. She works closely with clients to develop bespoke treatment plans that make best practice and evidence relevant to clients’ needs, in line with their values and oriented to their hopes for the future. Dr O’Hanlon is experienced in working with families, schools, universities, social and healthcare services (if appropriate) to create social, education and health contexts in which clients can thrive, making small manageable changes that have a big impact.
